Where are you “sending down” the miners? In one of the village mines (Elforche’s old Eastern, or Kryne’s Western), or somewhere random in the forest? I’m just not sure how to report.

Lee Letter to Cisse

Dear Cisse,

There is no longer a Literacy teacher or History teacher at the school of Frye. Is it possible to help find suitable teachers for the positions?

Sincerely, Lee

The Eighth month has drawn to a close; a month of change; a month of tragedy. The Eighth month, one of summer's greatest heat, is ending. What has transpired in this month that is to be considered such a calamity? Read on...

The Elders have discussed the Current issues, and their results are recorded here.

1. Should the Udebbha'ian Church and it's priests be exempt from tax, yes or no?
Elamon: We support the suggestion of Gardore and his organization.
Javen: No, even we elders have to pay taxes. Besides, this may upset the other churches.
Fenris: They should be tax exempt as a moral upstanding religion. We should show support for such groups.
Bouhe: No. Even religious institutions must pay taxes. The Elders also have to pay taxes too. Taxes are needed for the system to function.
Jookun: Support Bouhe.
Sefiam: Since the U'debbhaian Church is not only the most upstanding but also the longest standing religious organization in the village, they rightfully deserve this tax reduction.
Gardore: Those who labor for U'debbha should be free of the bonds of this world, and should not be taxed!
Final Vote: It was a close vote, but although most of the powerful families were against the proposal, the Elders are not solely comprised of the families. Elamon of Elforche had the deciding vote, and he immediately agreed to the proposal. After all, his reasoning was, there's no purpose to having a religious representative on the Council of Elders if they can never effectively pass any laws. Some suspect, however, that there was more afoot than Elamon was letting on. The law has been officially passed: The U'debbhaian Church, and the priests thereof, are forthwith to be exempt from all taxes that affect the lay populace.

Cisse, our Bailiff, has read the letters of the powerful families and has responded accordingly.
Lew:
Dear Cisse,
There is no longer a Literacy teacher or History teacher at the school of Frye. Is it possible to help find suitable teachers for the positions?
Sincerely, Lew

Tannell:
[No Letter was Written]

Ferran:
[No Letter was Written]

Asura:
Lately crimes have only been increasing over the last few months and I hope you can give something about this and I worry that something is in play with these crimes.
Signed, Xijin

Elforche:
[No Letter was Written]

Cisse has decided, due to Asura's letter, that he will return to Frye once again. While in Frye, he will personally, along with a detachment of Count Ashet's castle guard, determine the source of these crimes, and root them out. After all, Frye is his village, and his livelihood is dependent on it's well-being. Cisse does value that importance of education, but not that of studying History, and it appears that a Literacy teacher has already been hired.

The powerful families have done much this past month:
Tannell: -Archaic Analogue- 43
The expeditionists begin to clear away more of the dirt, rocks, and topsoil from the structure, and notice that the structure buried beneath the ground appears almost perfectly square at the top, extending in an outward angle as it goes deeper, much like a pyramid. Small narrow steps lead down the structure on all four sides; so far, the expeditionists have barely removed 10 feet of the large amount of earth covering the lower structure, and other than the narrow, small, chipped steps, have found nothing major of note.

Tannell: -Murder Investigation- 90 (Result Sabotaged by Ferran)
Although Tannell has had very little funding for this endeavor, they have gotten quite far in their investigation by stumbling on a miraculous finding related to the Murder. Apparently, an eyewitness in Traye, who had been for some reason quiet until now, has reported to Tannell investigators that he had seen a man leap from the roof of the castle near the late Count Adaarn's quarters shortly after the fire started, landing in a tree. The man had been incarcerated by the Traye guards for some time, before escaping on his own. Tannell has also found strong evidence that this man came from the village of Shaake; a village guard in Traye, one of the suspect's incarcerators, presented Tannell's investigators with a hand-written note that had been found on the poop-covered escapee from the castle, signed by the Bailiff of Shaake, written in code. Tannell would have to crack the code if they were to fully understand the content of the note.

Tannell: -A Mountain of Books- 95
Motoun, a very wise and keen man of the Tannell family, has taken up the role of the Literacy teacher in the school, taking Armanus' former salary from the Elders. Although many of the exemplary Literacy students no longer attend his class due to them skipping school to aid Armanus in his non-curricular events, those that do attend find their skills bolstered greatly by the teacher. Tannell enjoys an increased reputation with the parents of the Literacy students in Frye, as well as a small financial boosts from the salary of Motoun.

Tannell: -Crews for Brews- 73
By trying new combinations and introducing new flavors, particularly that of the exotic Flame Jalapeno, Tannell has invented several interesting new Brews that they serve at the Eloquent Oak. Some patrons opt to test their bravery with the saucy "Brimstone Brew", a flaming and spicy drink, while others go the safer route with the "Audiovore Ale", which has a sweet but slightly pungent flavor; others still opt for the "Porcupine Pint", which has a unique prickling sensation on the tongue when consumed. The Eloquent Oak has increased reputation for these experimental foods, and Tannell enjoys increased reputation and increased revenue from the influx of new patrons who leave some of the other taverns to frequent the Eloquent Oak instead.

Lew: -Animal Medicines- 25
Unfortunately, Lew's recent herbal tests on their farm animals have gone awfully awry, making many sickly and killing several. Lew's animal product production has decreased sharply due to this, harming their income.

Lew: -Outsource Marketing- 89
The mercantile delegates from Lew find plenty of building materials in the villages of Shaake and Donu, and for good prices. They now have a supply of building materials which they have been able to sell off to both Northe and Ferran for a reasonable profit, which has given them some extra disposable income while increasing positive relations with both Northe and Ferran, as they each are unaware of Lew's contribution to the other...

Lew: -Stemming Liefe- 37
Liefe attempts to reason with Northe, only to be rebuked for his doubt of his leader, the man who has defeated the Dark god and has brought nothing but good to Frye. Northe warns Liefe that while help and support are appreciated, undermining of authority will not be tolerated amongst the Medicants; unity is vital to success and growth. If Liefe challenges Northe again, he is warned that he will be relieved of his duties and sent away. Liefe reports to Lew that Northe is using some of the funds to hire night time labourers who are expanding the basement of the Church of Northe, for unknown reasons.

Lew: -Arson Investigation- 71
Lew's investigators have done well in securing more information on the attackers, by more thoroughly questioning the witnesses and by searching the areas where the groups were found. One of the investigators from Lew found a torn part of a fine fur cloak, and another investigator found a fine dagger buried in the mud of one of the alleyways... a dagger made of the highest quality of forged steel. What Lew does with this information is up to them.

Ferran: -Wall Construction- 78 (Result Aided by Lew)
Construction of the wall goes along very well, Ferran receiving voluntary help from Lew labourers, for which they are very grateful. The Wall is approximately halfway completed, with the open sections being the roadway to the rest of the county, as well as the exposed section of forest belonging to Elforche, still being regrown from the fires it suffered many months ago.

Ferran: -Hospital Construction- 69 (Result Aided by Lew)
Construction on the hospital goes swimmingly, what with an influx of building supplies provided by Lew at a very reasonable cost. Larger and fancier than Northe's hospital, it's clean facilities and roomy areas should work well for many clients. The hospital is complete, and is ready to begin hiring doctors and taking in patients.

Ferran: -Malevolent Minions- 21
Utilizing guidance from their sole criminal, who has recovered from his arrow wound, a few Ferran delegates covered in hooded cloaks manage to track down a sizable group of criminals near the old river docks, and present them with their offer. Unfortunately, the criminals brazenly seize this chance to hold up these wealthy cookie-pushers and take valuables they had on them; gold coins, neck chains and rings, mostly. However, when they remove the costly hood of one of the delegates and recognize a member of Ferran, they quickly pin him down with a dagger. The other delegates manage to escape, running off into the shadows, but this gang of thugs is now holding one of Ferran's own hostage. They have delivered a note with instructions on where to leave a sizable deposit of funds in order to receive their man back alive.

Ferran: -Slander the Serpent Himself- 46
Members of Ferran decry Northe's policies about the money he uses and his intentions over the long term, rallying groups in the Indigo Ibex and elsewhere; however, many people are positively swayed by Northe and the Medicants and what they have done, and thus Ferran only manages to sway a small group of malcontents who do nothing more than give a wry chuckle and raise their mugs of mead when they hear the speeches of Ferran. The rest of the populace is not impressed; Ferran's reputation drops slightly with the general populace and the ire of Northe is sparked.

Asura: -Luge's Examination- 11
When offered this proposal, Luge is disgruntled and a bit miffed that Xijin thinks he's an incapable fool because he's homeless. He tells Xijin that with his specific skill set, Xijin would be dead right now if Luge wanted him dead. The other Asurans don't take kindly to this, and attempt to capture Luge and drag him out of the Asura family estate and beat him for his offence. But Luge displays a remarkable level of martial capability, knocking two of the armed guards who tried to restrain him unconscious with several kicks and punches, and using their weapons to kill another two Asuran guards in cold blood. Luge then tells Xijin that he will pay for assuming Luge is an incapable homeless man. He hurls the spear of one of the guards at Xijin, the edge of the spear grazing the left side of his face, leaving a bloody gash, and wedging itself in the wall behind Xijin. Luge then vaults out the window of the Asura mansion, making a 20 foot fall to the ground below, where he rolls expertly across the cobblestones, unscathed. He then disappears into the alleys of Frye after hurling a loose cobblestone through another window of the Asura mansion, where it smashes a priceless piece of pottery, an Asuran family heirloom. Luge is nowhere to be found for the rest of the month.

Asura: -Farming Practice- 96 (Result Aided by Lew)
The Asuran farmers, former guards, have made great progress in their farming capabilities thanks to the seeds provided by Lew. While the time for planting is long past, they have managed to learn a great deal about seed propagation and the ideal raising conditions; hopefully, this will aid them in their farming endeavors in the future.

Asura: -Magical Mumblings- 18
Airi spends much of her time in the woods in the forests surrounding Frye; unfortunately, she seems to catch nothing of magical value during her time in the forest. In fact, she is attacked several times by a pack of wild foxes who seem to be extremely daring and unafraid of humans. Thankfully, she has suffered only minor wounds, and is currently resting in the Asura estate.

Asura: -Tannell Tattling- 75
An Asuran delegate shows up at the Tannell estate and is welcomed inside cordially, where he begins to inform the Tannell members what Asura knows in regards to the recent crimes. They give Tannell their information about Mace and his gang, as well as their preferred location at the Indigo Ibex. The Asuran representative also gives information about a dangerous blackguard named Luge, who cannot be trusted as he assaulted and killed Asurans on their own property. Asura suggests to Tannell that perhaps this Luge is the assassin of the late Count Adaarn they have been searching for for so long. Tannell accepts the information, and the Asuran delegate leaves peaceably. Relations between Asura and Tannell increase; what Tannell does with this information is up to them.

Lew: -Family Rearing- 15
Unfortunately, Lew cannot find anyone in their family suitable to take the place of History teacher in the school. While they do find one who is capable of teaching basic literacy, Asura has already supplied a Literacy teacher for the school.

Lew: -Deer Foxes- 19
Lew's attempts to continue to farm foxes have led to extensive setbacks due to a wild pack of foxes that have begun to roam the forests near Frye. They managed to break their domesticated cousins free from captivity, and a very large pack of wild and domesticated foxes, unafraid of humans and hungry for food, have begun to roam the woods near Frye. As for the deer, while they have not had such bad luck, the new generations of fawns are very weak and have difficulty moving, apart from walking on very shaky legs.

[Event] -Mine Investigation- 1 (Result Affected by... Lew: -Eastern Mine Investigation- 82 , Asura: -Eastern Encroaching- 53)
Long before dawn, a group of Lew investigators sneak into the mines with torches, intent to find out what Elforche was hiding. They venture deep into the mines...
At dawn, the Elders convene to conduct a thorough investigation of these mines, once and for all. Elamon, Javen, Fenris, Bouhe, Jookun, Sefiam, Gardore, and a detachment of Frye's guards arrive at the mines early in the day, planning to spend the entirety of the day there, investigating the mines. After placing several signs informing the populace to keep out of the mines, they venture into the mines. Elforche made sure to clear out all of their equipment, so there were no safety torches or any source of lights in the mines...
Sometime mid-morning, a group of Asuran-hired miners approaches the mine. The Asuran guards at the mine read the note that the head miner hands them, and recognizing the signet of Xijin, allows them past the "Do Not Enter" signs with their tools to begin the mining operation they had planned: which was to find valuable resources that had been left in the mines while they were still abandoned, to get the best advantage and find the precious materials...
In the afternoon, after traversing some of the mines' deepest shafts for hours, Lew's investigators stumble across a large underground cavern, that seems to have been hollowed out by the Elforche miners only several months ago. They see a very interesting structure in the center of this cavern, and they move closer to investigate...
The Elders have an unfortunate mishap during their investigation; one of the deeply downward shafts of the mine has had it's safety barricade removed, and Sefiam and Elamon fall down the slope! In his old age, Sefiam's brittle bones break under the inertia and his neck is broken. Elamon is gravely wounded, but can still move and calls out for help. One of the Asuran guards manages to make his way down safely and carries Elamon back up to the others...
Suddenly both the Lew investigators and the group of Elders experience an unstable tremor throughout the mine; the Asuran miners have begun to mine. With the Elforche safety fixtures removed, the mineshafts are not prepared to handle the myriad hammers and pickaxes being slammed against their walls. Some of the mineshafts begin to crumble, and the Asuran miners take what minerals they can carry, mostly iron and copper ore, and rush to the mine entrance. Several of them are crushed by falling rock, but most of them make it out relatively unscathed, covered in mine dust...
The Elders and their group struggles to make it to the exit, the falling rocks crushing several Asuran guards on their way out. They lose Jookun to a falling boulder from the ceiling of one of the shafts, and Elamon is left behind in the collapsing mine as the Asuran guard who was carrying him is crushed by a rock. The remaining party members come to a ledge they cannot scale in time, and Javen acts as a boost to help everyone else up; unfortunately they are unable to pull him up before his section of the mine caves in; he died sacrificing himself to save the others. One shaft of the mine appears to be slowly caving in as the group runs toward it; Gardore pushes Bouhe aside and tries to quickly crawl through, hoping to escape, but he is too slow and is crushed for his cowardice by the falling rocks. Fenris, Bouhe, and a lone Asuran guard manage to make it out of the mines, badly wounded, but alive...
The mines continue to crumble as Lew's investigators stumble out of an auxiliary exit, their hands and arms bleeding, dazed and confused. They seem to be in a state of deep shock, and are also quite wounded from their frantic escape from the crumbling mines.

New Issues:
1. Before his death, Jookun had stepped forward and proposed that the local guard of Frye be granted the power and the rights to search houses officially, particularly the houses of those who have the power to resist. The guards already had the capability to do such a thing, but being backed by the Elders would mean that it wouldn't be only the poor that couldn't resist the guards who would get their houses searched. Jookun states that this is a step in the direction of justice. Even the powerful families wouldn't be able to stop their places being searched by the guards if this law is passed. Although Jookun is dead, his right as Village Elder still stands, and his suggestion must still be voted on.

2. Bouhe has informed the Elders about what Lew found out, that the fires were intentional and about the group in hoods seen in alleys shortly before the fires, as told by eye witnesses. What the Elders decide to do about this information is up to them...

3. The Elders must convene on what to do about the Eastern Mines, now that they have been inspected.

Notable Events:
1. There has been a horrible accident in the Eastern Mines. Many of the Council are dead. A funeral ceremony is planned to be held at the beginning of the coming month; those who have things they wish to say as eulogies or other expressions for those who died will be welcome to do so. The families are encouraged each to make a speech at occasions as major as this. Among the dead in the mines are: Sefiam, Elamon, Javen, Jookun, Gardore, all Village Elders. Also Grank, Theodore, Garius, and Xara, Asuran Guards. Also Ferne, Horgar, Salmac, and Jacob, Asuran Miners.
Also related to this incident is that new Elders must be nominated to form the council. Ferran and Lew do not need to nominate elders as their nominees are still alive. Asura, Tannell, and Elforche will need to do so. The U'debbhaian church will nominate another Elder to replace Gardore.

2. Both the Hospital of Frye and the Ferran Hospital are complete. Townsfolk will now be able to visit these hospitals to get aid. Ferran's hospital is of higher quality (given that it is most likely to be run by actual doctors and not crusty Medicants) but charges a higher fee for their services, as they are privately owned and use their own money to run the hospital. Since the Hospital run by Northe is technically Frye's public hospital (it is merely managed by Northe as he secured the position for himself some time ago), the villagers do not need to pay to use the services supplied there, although many do tithe the Medicants while they are there in return for being aided.

3. Armanus has garnered a growing following of devotees, who listen to him preach every eight days in the large temple-like basement of his house; U'debbhaians and Dabalians alike are growing concerned as some of their own members have begun to attend these religious meetings instead of their own.

4. Northe has been rousing many followers of the Church of Northe into general unrest. These members of Northe's church are distrustful of the powerful families, disenchanted by recent events involving the Village Elders, and in general carry a feeling that those in leadership of Frye are not doing the best they could be, and that Northe could do a better job running Frye. Northe can be seen almost daily with a group of lightly armed Medicants travelling the streets, speaking to the poor and the disgruntled, encouraging them in his name.

In short, here are the current Issues that the Elders can vote on this month:
1. Allow Elder-backed house searches without prejudice, yes or no?

2. What shall the Elders do about the Evidence that Bouhe has laid forth?

3. What shall we do with the Eastern mines?
And so, the Ninth month comes upon us. We may yet be reeling from the tragedies and pains of this month, but life goes on. The sun will yet rise on the morrow, and it shall set once again. We must carry on, for such is life. Hopefully, the Ninth month will bring good omens; it is the month of harvesting, when air shall become cooler once again, and the winds shall begin to breeze through the land. We all indeed hope that the Ninth Month shall bring joy and recovery...

1. Yes, equality and truth for all. This is what Javen would have wanted.
2. The family of Tannell will try to identify the members of the cloaked group. There seems to be more secrets to be found.
3. Close them! They are far too dangerous!

Elder Election: They choose Natoole, Javen's youngest brother, to stand for the family of Tannell. Stout, brave, and occasionally viscous, he
will lead the family to greatness.

[---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------]
The family of Tannell tells the count about the "murderer" but warns that there are some unexplained things they still wish to discover.

Tannell attempts to crack the coded letter.

The cloaked members of the group, and the area they were sighted, are investigated.

The Eloquent Oak continues to develop new exquisite food choices. Though, they are carefully tasted before being released for the public.

The expedition site is carefully uncovered, while taking notes on the structure to see if its design can be used to improve housing.
[---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------]
Letter to the Bailiff:
Greetings Cisse,

The family of Tannell is still mourning the loss of our wise leader Javen. This has brought to our attention the severe lack of safety precautions in our workplaces. It would be appreciated if you helped supply the man-power to make sure are buildings are designed properly.
[---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------]
Funeral Speech:
Our new representative, Natoole, speaks of the terrible accident, and the brave actions of those who helped the others escape. He then speaks of the other elder's known accomplishments, and commends them for their work. He then says how the safety of our work spaces worries him, and that he contacted the bailiff so he can help investigate.

You don't want to say any words at the upcoming funeral ceremony for all the elders and other victims of the mine accident?

I say this because everyone missed the opportunity for expression the last time this was available, which was when Xijin of Asura had a child. The families risk looking very callous and insensitive if they say nothing at the ceremony...

Actually, under my action to investigate, it says that I was sabotaged. That probably means that my "lead" is probably your scapegoat.

Actually I didn’t. If you look at Tannell’s Action results, you’ll see that the case was sabotaged by the evidence you planted.
I made it intentionally vague to avoid Tannell’s player realizing what was framed and choosing to ignore it.
